Falcon State Park

Any thoughts/comments on Falcon State Park? I'm contemplating a trip there the middle of April for the bird photography opportunities. Did a search and found a 3 year old post that wasn't complimentary. I'm hoping things have changed. Plan on getting a screened shelter. Any info anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Noobcamper

Perhaps that was mine. I camped there for a weekend in June 2003 and wasn't too impressed. But then, this was the time of year when area temps are normally in the high 90's-low 100's. Wildlife seemed relegated to mainly snakes. No shade trees and the terrain was a bit more rustic than I preferred. The showers/restroom wasn't exactly well-kept and the scorpions I observed in there didn't help matters any.

Hopefully, some of this has changed...as I have read from others about the birding opportunites at this park. Good luck.

Re: Falcon State Park

I love that park!

Bird photography? Absolutely!! They even have a half-decent blind for bird photography and roadrunners running all over the place!

But I wouldn't go camping there in the summer! More of a fall/winter/spring location. April should be OK - but starting to get warm. Still bird activity should be high. Bring an air conditioner!

We found bird activity to be very high when we visited in February. Down there the birds are already building nests in Feb. So if they are raising young in March & April it might be very good.

It's arid brush type desert (thorny scrub) habitat. I think it's lovely and it's full of wildlife. Folks liking more green or trees might prefer a different park.

It has very nice RV camping sites.
