We love Enchanted Rock! Did you see any deer? Wish I lived closer.
With a rare, well deserved break in the winter weather, we took off to Fredericksberg to hike the rock. Visitation was fairly low and we seldom saw folks, except at the summit. The initial hike up was a bit strenuous for us by luckily God put some nice rocks where we needed them to sit down. We explored the summit a while and took a differnt way down. We found a run-off stream and followed it down. The bottom half of the stream was steep and covered in 3 foot boulders. We took it slow and ****-slid a few times.
After a short picnic, we checked out the camping facilities, noting some nice sites for another trip. Conditions would need to be just right, no other campers, great weather, and the park to ourselves ( like that will ever happen.) I might try to gather the cubscout den for a day trip up there.

I'm sure that was quite a different experience not being in the throng of people that are always there on the nice days. I'm fortunate that I've never been one of the ones that have been turned away due to the area being full. Then again, I've always made sure I get an early start when visiting ER. ER is one of those places that regardless of how many times you've been, there's always something new to see with each visit.
There is always something to do there. From backpacking to just hiking, scrambling on boulders or exploring the caves, ER just has it all. Wish it wasn't over an hour away though.![]()
DanInSA, you made me laugh. Here I sit in Kuwait thinking about all the things I enjoy that are half a world away. Even when I get back home to Texas It'll still take me 13 hours to get out to the wilds of Big Bend. Kind of makes a 1 hour drive look insignificant for something you love doing doesn't it? Cheer up my friend and enjoy the journey.![]()
Are you in the armed forces over there? If so, thank you.

Yes, Happy and thank you for your appreciation. I have found that those 2 words are so important for anyone in the military. I'm with the US Army and have been here since the summer. DanInSA, you'll love BiBe. If you haven't found BigBendChat.com, check it out. You'll find the answer to every question you have answered there. I'll be there the second week of February while I'm at home for leave. I'm hoping the weather cooperates.
Thanks for the website. I had checked that out a couple of years ago when I was planning a trip - ended up going to Guadalupe Mountains NP - but the site was totally different. Not much of a resource back then if I remember correctly, a lot of spam and fighting. I like the newer format much better, and there is some good info in there. Thank again.
