Dogwood Canyon, Cedar Hill

Has anyone been here (Dogwood Canyon) supposedly its between Cedar Hill state park and Northwood university on FM 1382. I'm trying to figure out where exactly it is. There is a little parking area and trail in this area, I think its called "Cedar Mountain preserve", is this it? I've been on this trail once (the longer natural trail, not just the paved one) and don't remember seeing anything like the article link below is showing. The picture shows some people near a large rockface, don't remember that when I went.

Anyway, just trying to figure out how to get there.

Re: Dogwood Canyon, Cedar Hill

Yes, Dogwood Canyon is part of the Cedar Mountain Preserve and is located off FM 1382, one-mile south of Cedar Hill State Park. (For others that are unfamiliar with the area, park at N32 36.891 W096 58.250. The trailhead is a ways up the road and starts at N32 37.004 W096 58.431.)

We had been to Cedar Mountain Preserve multiple times before the more recent disccusions about Dogwood Canyon appeared in the local papers. We have not yet been to Dogwood Canyon. However, we were told by friends to go via the normal Cedar Mountain Preserve parking and trailhead. Like you, we are not completely sure how to get from that trail to the area discussed in the paper, but it seems like a very worthwhile goal for exploration one of these nice weekends! Please post a report f you go.

Re: Dogwood Canyon, Cedar Hill

Still a mystery. I went by the little parking area and walked through the trails there and still saw nothing like in the picture from the article.
I wonder if that picture was taken across 1382 on the north side of the area. I drove down 1382 to clark rd. went up clark then took the first left, Strause rd, and a ways down on the left is what looks like a trail entrance but there's no place to park and a little further is a "Cedar Mountain Preserve" sign.

Anyway the trail near the parking area is a nice walk in the woods, just lots of cedar, oak, etc. much like the cedar ridge nature area just to the north.

I'll guess we'll have to wait until they start building the Audubon center to see where any other trails are.
