Question Re: Discuss: Inks Lake State Park

How is the stargazing in that area? Are you able to see the Milky Way? I know there is an observatory at Canyon of the Eagles, but we wanted to stay at Inks Lake.

Re: Discuss: Inks Lake State Park

Good question. I don't think the stargazing that's great, mostly because it's difficult to get out from all the tree cover, and when you are you have potential boat traffic as well as park and neighboring community lighting to compete with the night sky view. This is pure conjecture, however, since I've been to Inks Lake SP only during daylight hours, though I have stayed near the park in motels and done some of after dark driving to-and-fro. Regardless of location, for best night sky viewing make sure there's a new moon, meaning no moon in the sky. The moon reflects a lot of the sun's rays and makes a huge difference in night sky viewing.

Anyone else who's actually camped at Inks have any more details?

I was impressed with the night sky view in Del Rio. I know, VERY far afield but I just thought I'd throw that in since some of the threads recently have involved stargazing and such.

Shannon's got it. Lots of stray light from the park and the area. Great place to camp though. Already scheduled to be there again in October.

Happy Camping!

Hello,

We are thinking about visiting with our kids age 9 and 11. How are the playgrounds and what kind of wildlife is seen in abundance. My kids love animals and would love to go to a park were you can see deer and other animals frequently. Thanks!!

Re: Discuss: Inks Lake State Park

Park has a number of playgrounds, the biggest and best is near the park store. Deer are plentyful in and around the park. They tend to have little fear of man. Walk the park roads in the early evening, particularly during the week and you'll see all the deer you want. Having them walk into your camp is not uncommon.
We were there this last April and will be returning in October. Really nice park. Here's a link to my last review. Hope it helps and happy camping!

Ask the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD). They make the rules, dude.

Because very few people have voice control over their dogs. Dogs like to see who's the boss. Dogs who are fighting create situations where adults are often fighting.

It's just a good idea, when you are sharing the park with others.

And, dude, since we're talking about responsible pet ownership, please carry a scooper with you so that when your dog leaves its "calling card" on the trail you can flick it off.
These are the same ethics one would use while walking the pet in the neighborhood.

Re: Discuss: Inks Lake State Park

We are going camping at Inks State Park this weekend. Anyone know how the fishing is in that area? I'd like to be able to actually EAT what I catch. SO far I've only caught little sunfish at Blanco SP

ANy good fishing spots? We don't have a boat.

THANKS!

Re: Discuss: Inks Lake State Park

There are a lot of fish there. I went swimming (there are cliffs for jumping, tons of fun) and I was getting bit by curious fish where I was.

I don't know if you eat what you catch. but Inks Lake is the only place left for Reservation in the Hill country.

You should have fun there I'm going this weekend too. again swimming is great and there is lots of wildlife, you should see deer on your way to you camp spot. I saw ducks, squirrels, fish, and I found glasses and a watch (both broken)
