Thumbs up Daingerfield SP (July 2008)

In one of the nicest parks in Texas we spent our 4th of July 2008. Daingerfield SP is located in Morris county Texas, off SH 49 near Mt Pleasant (south of I 30, and North of I 20). (THIS IS EAST TEXAS folks)

The park offers picnicking, camping, limited boating, fishing; swimming and hiking.

Park facilities include primative campsites with water; campsites with water and electricity; campsites with water, electricity, and sewer (we stayed in site 9 full service) a fishing pier; and a fish-cleaning facility; 2 miles of hiking trails; a playground with slides and swings; cabins with heating and air-conditioning, and kitchen facilities (linens and towels are furnished; but utensils, dishes, and silverware are not)

Sites 1-10 (Big Pine) are the full serve sites and are all under the lob lolly pines. 90 degrees did not feel like 90 under the shade and away from humidity.

Both Dogwood and Mt View camping areas offer lots of shade also

We spend some time lounging in the lake and strolling through the trees.

Will post pictures in a later section. Highly recommend this park. Its 3 hours east of Plano, Texas and worth the trip.

Re: Daingerfield SP (July 2008)

Sounds good other than it is a small park and Mt View area and primative tent area are apart from the other two areas. (see map on state site)
Would need to get someone there early to get spots together or at least within walking distance. But it has shade, a lake, fire rings, a playground and thats enough to keep most people busy.

With enough warning we might be interested. After our long trip we are resting for a few weekends:

Trrop198, do you guys tent or RV ? I am trying to get a little (or not so little, however it works out) group together for a campout in Sept or Oct...
My other idea for a SP was Lake Mineral Wells SP & TRailway. Any thoughts or comparisons to Daingerfield?

I loved the slideshow--you know, a picture being worth a thousand words and stuff like that. The bathouse looks nicer than any I've ever seen.

Pictures do not tell the story, the park is set in the country side around the lake. It was full for the Forth of July but didn't seem that way. In the fall the trees change colors (all right some of them)

Troop198, we have a few interested families (3 for sure so far), & we are pretty much agreed on Cedar Hill SP. You mentioned that one as really nice, as I recall. I think it sounds terrific! ...and we are tentatively planning on Sept 19-21. What do you guys think? Should be lotsa fun!

Re: Daingerfield SP (July 2008)

We have camped in our popup at Daingerfield. There are 3 sites that are pretty much by themselves; otherwise, the sites are too close together.

I just bought a hybrid, though, so we will probably take advantage of the full-hookup sites; although, as I remember, they also are right next to one another.

Daingerfield has wonderful cabins. We stayed in a 3 bedroom one on Martin Luther King's holiday. It had a fireplace and outside had a fire ring and table. The cabins stay booked. There are also 2 one-bedroom cabins.

Re: Daingerfield SP (July 2008)

We were in site 9 (W,E &S) and were seperated from the neighbors, in our walk around the other areas that were full some were closer than others (and some might be too close) but for a full park it did not seem loud or busy.

We have a Coyote hybrid and really enjoy it
