Cooper lake SP South Sulphur Unit Review

If your looking for a nice park just 2 1/2 hours from Plano via 380 to 30 east, South Sulphur is it. The park has 87 sites with water and electric. 15 well located walk in sites some right on the water and even some equistrian sites.
All the regular sites have a concrete narrow drive with a fire ring. Some have shaded picnic benches. The best part in August was the almost secluded beach. At one time only 3 of us in the water. Nice shaded benches to sit under at the beach too. Water was real nice

The park has lighted fishing piers, boat ramps a nice 5 mile hike, and for those of you of just want to get away from the big city, it has Cabins. We were in the trailer but inspected the cabins, nice one bedroom, air, or heat, with kitchen, full bathroom cabins right on the lake! It also has cottages (less stuff) and screen shelters, but cabins look like the ticket if you just want to get away with out setting up a tent or a trailer. Cabins are designed for 4 but may take up to 6. All you need is food.
Campground was half empty on a hot August weekend so it was quiet and worth the extra short ride.

Thanks for posting the review - I just got a Kayak, and have been researching the parks for places to go - I also like to bike/hike. Cooper is one I found a few days ago, on the State web page, and was wondering if it was worth the drive from Benbrook. Sounds like a great place.

If you tent camp the walk in sites #101,99, & 98 have spots to go in. The others in that loop are not bad either, only a few not right next to the water.

Because more than one person wanted to know, the cabins at the park have A/C and heat. They are next to the lake with the deck working like a second floor. No fireplaces. Kitchens have microwave, range top, and refrigerator. Each cabin has a front porch and a rear deck with BBQ grill and picnic table. Several cabins are ADA accessible.

WATCH THE VIDEO ON THIS link. Yes its cheesy.
