Cooper lake

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/videos
I was just viewing the above website & learned about Cooper lake. It's about an hour & 1/2 NE of Dallas.

Anyone been there before?
Been camping? How is it?

Thanks,
~Kelly

Re: Cooper lake

Yep, took a look at both parks about 5-6 years ago. Have not camped there only because we haven't returned to the area. Both parks are nice with the South Sulphur Unit having the strong edge. Large park with good facilities. Reminded me a great deal of Isle du Bois on Ray Roberts. We were there in the spring time and the wildflowers were outstanding. Many interesting birds to watch as well.

I remember Doctors Creek Unit as being smaller with much less shade. Nothing wrong with the park but I believe I would choose South Sulpher. I seem to recall the Doctors Branch Unit was "on the chopping block" as one of the parks that the TPWD was thinking about selling. Guess it hasn't happened yet.

Hope this helps and happy camping!

Re: Cooper lake

Don't know if you been by now, but as of
07/02/07 - All boat ramps and fishing piers are now open. The swimming area at South Sulphur is open and the one at Doctors Creek should be open soon. Please contact the park for the most up-to-date information regarding the lake levels.

Saying that the Doctors creek unit (north side) is a nice place, not too far from Big D but not that populated either.
Nice shady spots and water is great.
