Cleburne June 2006
Our visit to Cleburne was meant to be a 1/2 day but turned out to be much shorter. We took the short drive from Dinosaur Valley to check out the park.
The gate-gal just flagged us in, must have just seen the paper camping tag on the window. We sought out the playground, swimming beach, and park store. I had hoped to stay and swim a while, or even rent a canoe to see the lake. Sadly, this part of the park, what we wanted for our day, was closed up. The lake was down so swimming didn't look appealing. The park store closed, and no boats were out to rent. The docks for the rented boats had signs to keep off, that they were dangerous. The building which houses the store and restrooms looks really sad. TurnKey has included this fact in his review of the park. I agree they should flatten the building. It was really detracting from the parks' appeal. The playground equipment was fairly new and the tables around it with a faucet and shade trees. Other than the restroom building looking bad, they have a nice day use area.
We didn't spend much time analyzing the campsites. The park would be just to far for us to go "just to camp". But, I can see why it would be a local's favorite. It is a quiet little park, with a pretty lake and nice views. Bring a yak, canoe, or boat, and have some fun.
