We were supposed to camp at Goliad this past wee#end but the kids cancelled due to monday exams so we thought we would head further south to Choke Canyon. Weather was mild enough to bring out some very large mosquitoes and the park was packed due to a catfishing tournament, we didn't have reservations and ended up stuck in a tent site with no elec. by the boat ramp where some of the catfishers treated us to late night drunkiness and shouted profanities...where is ranger rick when you need him??
restrooms had no showers and were "not clean"
Anyhoo, saw lots of wildlife huge deer, many turkeys, coyotes and foxes, and a large flock of sandhill cranes, a couple smushed rattlesnakes but no live encounters.
Second time there, probably won't be a third. Really just using the park as a base and spent days in the rivers of the lower neuces drainage.
our book is now available (me and dad) over ten years in the ma#ing, if you have ever fished for crawdads, and I know you all have, this is the book that would have been your favorite if you were a kid who lived in creeks, and had the book existed back then, anyway details at
Texas Crawdads/Crawdad Club Designs - Home if there is a kid in your life who spends too much time with video games buy them this book, give them a dipnet and drop them off at the nearest culvert with water in it...maybe I should post this under wildlife and conservation...
