Chinati Mountains State Natural Area

I've been listening to some old Passport to Texas recordings, and I came across a mention of a Chinati Mountains SNA. Come to find out, this land has been owned by the TPWD for 10 years now. When can we expect this 40,000 acre tract of land between Marfa and Presidio to open for public use?

Re: Chinati Mountains State Natural Area

I too read something about this place only a few weeks ago. I've heard rumors that the park service doesn't have the funds now to open it up for use. I also heard somewhere that a resort was placed in the area.

Big Bend Ranch SP is supposed to start blazing a trail or two in it's northern section in the near future so maybe TP&W will start to work on it then.

Sadly, TPWD does not have funds to cover the parks we currently have. The legislature, could of course, rectify that quickly by making changes in the allocation of the sporting goods tax, but that is a whole other discussion...

In regards the resort, isn't that the Cibolo Creek Ranch?
