Canyon Lake - Dog Policy

We just moved to San Antonio from California earlier this month. We have a Golden Retriever who just loves to swim. I understand if dogs are not allowed in the beach areas - but are there places we can take him away at Canyon Lake that are away from the crowd and let him swim safely?

I don't think so. Maybe you can just provide a private pool for your dog if it likes to swim.

Be careful where you let him swim. Many unskilled / unlucky anglers get "Hung up" and just cut their line, leaving it and the hook submerged. Let him swim where you would swim, not where you'd fish.

Some parks you can get away with swimming your dog. I don't have a dog so I don't know what the rules are, other than it should be on a leash at all times. As a dog lover, if the dog is behaved and isn't a threat to my enjoyment or safety, let him swim. I won't tattle about the leash!

Be careful where you swin in the lake. The marked off swim areas should be fine. This lake, as well as most Hill Country lakes, have ledges. You could be in a few feet of water, take one more step and be in water way over your head.
