At this late date, I'm having trouble finding available camp sites at several central Texas state parks. Undoubtedly, the parks will be popular on Easter weekend since so many people have Friday (and perhaps Monday, too) off.

We are hoping to make it to the Bastrop area. Any comments on what to expect, particularly regarding park visitation levels?

Try Buescher State Park, it's just south of Bastrop SP, in fact, they are connected by this super neat little asphalt road that runs through the woods. I actually prefer Buescher over Bastrop, less crowded and a small lake to canoe and fish in.

Keep checking back for your reservations,you'll be surprised how many people back out the last minute.Both parks are great,I like bastrop because of the fishing.If you like to ride bikes the road between the parks is great place to ride.
