In case you had not heard, there was a fire in the Basin area of Big Bend National Park yesterday (Mar 8). The fire was caused by a power line downed by high winds. The fire started north of the camp grounds on the slope where the lines come into the basin from Green Gulch.
Big Bend National Park is currently open. Visitor entrance stations at Persimmon Gap and Maverick remain open. The road leading up to the Chisos Basin is currently closed to incoming traffic. The Chisos Basin campground has also been evacuated.
