Which is better - Huntsville or Livingston?

Typically my husband & I spend two weeks in September in the Hill Country - tent camping on the motorcycle. This year it looks like we will be spending only a few days in the Hill Country (forgoing all our beloved Hill Country SPs) and then will be heading to East Texas for a "Pickin in the Pines" Festival. After leaving Blanco SP we will be staying at Bastrop SP and then need to head east for a night. What I need to know is which is better for tent camping - Huntsville SP or Lake Livingston SP? Or should we forget both of those and drive the extra miles over to Martin Dies SP? We are not familiar with East Texas AT ALL so I am relying on you, my fellow campers, to help me make this decision! Please remember - we are on a bike so that means that we "eat on the road". It would help alot if there are eating establishments close to the SP - Mom and Pop-type places are great! I have the rest of the trip heading North up towards Mineola/Pine Mills mapped out - its just down around the Houston area I am stumped.

I am confused on your route, Livingston is out of the way to Mineola, might consider Fairfield SP, good spots to eat right by the freeway. Huntsville has some road noise but lots of places along the freeway in Huntsville, and a few in Centerville (going up 45N)

Huntsville SP is nice, woody, about 30 minutes from Huntsville & all sorts of eating establishments. IF you go to H'ville you MUST eat bar-b-q at the New Zion Missionary Church!

Another idea is COE parks: Cagle Recreation area is outside of Conroe on Lake Conroe.

Re: Which is better - Huntsville or Livingston?

Thanks for the responses! I understand the confusion on our route - it is confusing to me, too. We are leaving Ft. Worth and heading down to Inks Lake for one night. Then we leave to spend two nights at a BnB outside Luckenbach (Fredericksburg area) so that we can attend the TexAmericana Fandango for the weekend. Now we start making our way eastish - Sunday is at Blanco SP, Monday is at Bastrop SP, & Tuesday will probably be Hunstville SP. Now we start making our way northish - Wednesday is a BnB in Nacogdoches and that will get us to Pine Mills (east of Mineola) on Thursday for three nights camping at the "Pickin in the Pines" Festival site. When you are on a motorcycle you stay off the interstates as much as possible (there are crazies in RVs out there don't ya know ). You are also on the lookout for "good riding rodes" so you take a lot of side trips just for the heck of it -no destination is a straight shot. Makes for a confusing itenirary but every ride is an adventure!

Re: Which is better - Huntsville or Livingston?

Now I understand, we try to stay off interstates with the trailer as I will not drive 65 or 70 with it. Recently went north through Missouri 71 to I35 for a short while then to Missouri 36 which is a nice road all the way to Illinois

Report back on your adventure
