Can you make an over-nighter of it & go to Port Aransas/Aransas Pass/Rockport area? That's really nice & not apt to be so crowded.
My parents are coming to visit during Spring Break (this coming week), and they would like to go to the coast, but none of us like big crowds. We live in College Station, so we would want somewhere relatively close to Houston. Does anyone know a beach in this area that doesn't get too busy and loud during spring break? I wanted to go to Galveston, so we could also go on the wetlands side and see the birds, but we realized Galveston will be pretty crazy.

The ferry at Port Aransas is apt to be backed up an hour or two during the height of the Spring Break crowds, mainly on the weekends. Take this into account for your planning. Otherwise, it's a great choice.
Another nice choice would be to drive on down to the National Seashore. There are higher visit rates during Spring Break, but still nothing compared to SPI or Galveston. Worth the drive for some peace and quiet (relative term).

Wow! Going to the beach during spring break is a great idea. I hope you will find a good spot.

Thanks for the suggestions. We ended up skipping the beach for this trip, but we will soon be moving to the Houston area, so next time that my parents visit, we will be even closer to the beach.
