Discuss: Beach camping east of high island?

planning a beach camping trip real soon and want to go to the beach along hwy 87 east of high island. i know that section of 87 has be washed out for years from there to beaumont. and actually i haven't been there in years, and since rita? i am sure there is more damage, BUT does anyone have any recent experience with that area of beach. can you still camp the beach....have open camp fire, that sort of thing.

thanks in advance for any and all comments....pro or con....

Re: Beach camping east of high island

Try asking on Lone Star Sharkers web site. I know some guys who go sharking on high island. They might have the info you need. I've never been so I'm not much help.

Have fun and be safe.

Re: Beach camping east of high island

It has been quite a few years since I went down that way but even then (before any recent hurricanes) it was trashed out. I'm sure you'd have a truly primitive experience there. But I can only imagine how bad the trash is now after Rita and Katrina washing so much junk into the Gulf. Just getting into the area is risky for feet and tires. Good luck if you pursue this trip!
