Bastrop state park Cabins - Wild Texas Forums: Parks, Travel & Recreation

Does anybody know anything about the Bastrop state park Cabins. I've been doing quite a bit of research and have found very few pictures or comments. Only that they are "rustic".

I would love to hear what you think about them!

Ihave camped at Bastrop many times and have seen the cabins from the outside but never been in. They are the typical iron ore C.C.C. structures. They sit at the edge of a small pond and are quite picturesque. They are of to one end so should be quiet? Other than that I know nothing

Justin and I have camped at the Bastrop cabins several times over the years -- usually in the "Davy Crockett" cabin (#8 or #12, I believe). We have also stayed at the State Park cabins in Arkansas which arguably have some of the best cabins of all U.S. State Parks! Their cabins are equal to what you'd hope for in a nice vacation rental property.

The Bastrop cabins are 'rustic' in that they're not like a rental home you might stay in -- they definitely are CCC era, but they do have upgrades like A/C, bathroom with shower, a small kitchen area, a small refrigerator, a stove (some have an oven, as well). A grill and picnic table are outside most, if not all, of the cabins.

If I find some photos of the cabins from our trips, I'll post them in this thread.

ok one more question...I just talked to someone who said the water is very muddy and murky. I hadn't read that anywhere. Any help??

Yes, the pond is not very large and the soil in the area is I believe highly acidic (pine needles, etc.) and red in color. So, the pond's not exactly a swimming hotspot though I've seen people fishing in it before. It's not inhospitable, but if you want to swim you'll want to visit the park's swimming pool, which is open during the summer.
