Bastrop State Park - Wild Texas Forums: Parks, Travel & Recreation

I've heard that you can hear alot of road noise camping at Bastrop SP. Are there any camping areas within the park that are better or worse as far as that goes?

We stayed in the Copperas Creek loop -- closest loop to Hwy 71 -- where the noise was definitely prevalent. Heck, we could even see the passing headlights! Fortunately, nighttime traffic isn't all that busy and Bastrop is a nice park.

The loops further into the park are probably less noisy.

As are the backcountry campsites on the Lost Pines Trail. A minimum of 1 mile hiking is required to get to the sites.

We hae stayed in only the cabins at Bastrop State Park. Road noise was not an issue there. But, I can see where it would be for some of the campsites. Buescher (we have camped there) seemed to have little problem with road noise.

The sites up near the pool are further from the road but not nearly as nice. They are quieter.

I remember hearing traffic but never found it offensive?

Bastrop SP is really pretty down in the pines for sure, but it's pretty close to Hiway 71. Buescher SP is almost as nice(not as many pine trees, but it does have a small lake)and it's well removed from any car noises. The park road that connects the 2 parks is perhaps one of the prettiest drives in Central Texas, great for bike riding too, or just walking.

I will say, the only place Justin and I have heard and seen a pileated woodpecker has been while camping at Bastrop State Park. Road noise be damned, that was a wonderful experience I hope we repeat in the future! We have also stayed in the cabins several times at Bastrop.
