Re: Balmorhea State Park

It is a neat place. Not often you find a "swimming pool" with fish in it. Truly an oasis in the desert.

Re: Balmorhea State Park

We camped there for about a week 2 springs ago. We made day trips to Monahans and McDonald Observatory, with a drive through at Fort Davis. One night we drove into Marfa to check out the "lights". Unfortunately they didn't cooperate. Anyway, it is a long drive to Balmorrhea from home so we spent one night at Caverns of Sonora. That was/is a neat sidetrip. When we got closer to our destination, the view was pretty much flat with the Davis Mountains in the distance. I could see a sparkle off to the south of IH10 when we were about 50 miles from Balmorrhea. There was nothing else to see. I made the remark that I wondered if that was a camper out in the middle of the desert. Well, it was. As we got even closer you could just make out a few RVs. Then you could see a couple of buildings. The campground was nothing to write home about but the pool definetly made all those miles worth it.
