    ATV for fishing PINS

I see that ATVs are not allowed at the Padre Island National Shore in Corpus. I understand the concern about some idiots that will try to ride on the dunes and that is illegal. I want to fish and camp a good ways down the beach and do not own a 4 wheel drive vehicle. My atv is set up to carry 2 fishing poles, ice chest, tent and other necessities. Is there anyone else interested in this that maybe we can let our voices be heard? Its a shame that if you cannot afford a 4wheel drive truck then you cannot enjoy this beautiful area except for a couple of miles.

Welcome, Keith and I hope you enjoy your time here. Can't help you with your problem but do understand. Unfortunatly, rules and laws are made to protect us and our world from those who have less then good sense. That being true, the rights and privileges of many suffer. It is not something that I like but none the less, that's the way it is. I hope you can find a way to enjoy the beaches and shoreline the way you wish and still stay within the law. Again, welcome aboard and,

    Happy Camping!

You could always rent a 4x4 truck in Corpus or in your hometown and take it to the park, or carpool with a friend who has a 4x4. There's no rule that says you must OWN the 4x4 vehicle you take down-island.

For that matter, there's plenty of beach access before the 4x4-only area. And bicycles aren't banned.... it'd be a challenging workout depending on the sand conditions, but you could haul a goodly amount of stuff with the properly equipped bicycle. (I'm not being sarcastic; it's an option if the beach conditions are just right--you want some harder packed sand vs. the light and loose and deep stuff that happens after a string of hot, dry and or windy low humidity weather.)

Just think about handicapped folks and others who cannot enjoy our parks as easily as we can, if at all. I understand you'd prefer to use an ATV, but don't focus on the negative and instead try to look at all your options and make your trip a reality. We are blessed to have such a beautiful, thriving (fishing, sea turtles, shorebirds), undeveloped coastline in our state. It may not always be that way.

This doesn't address PINS, but like Shannon, that park is one the last of its kind.

But here is a good link for you
