amistad nat'l rec area

has anyone been out there yet/recently? http://www.nps.gov/amis/ is it hard to get a campsite? is it worth getting a campsite? (for tent camping). is it worthwhile/reasonable to expect to make a day trip out of it from san antonio (Its what, 3.5hrs away- but the days are so long now...)?

i noticed on the diablo east map that there is a portion of the park labelled "U.S. Air Force" - does anyone know anything about that? I know at canyon lake, both the USAF and the U.S. Army have recreational land up there available for camping and rec use for service members- is the USAF labelled area of amistad set up the same way?
