4th of July Trash

On Sunday the 6th of July I went to Chisolm Trail Park to put in my Kayak. I was very disappointed to see all the trash - especially fireworks - that had been left all over. FIrst, they are supposed to use fireworks in parks. Second, there is a fire danger. And third, at least pick up all the wrappers and burned out or expended fireworks. It really saddens me to see the type of people that can ruin such an outing.

When I got back to the boat ramp at Chisolm, someone had finished off a couple of six packs of beer and left all the cans there. I think someone came along later to collect them for the return value - but come on - pick up your trash. I imagine people using this board are the ones that take care of our parks, too back there aren't more like us.

Re: 4th of July Trash

Some years back, Justin and I had a similar experience at a TX State Park after a holiday weekend, and a similar reaction to it. You'd think the very same beauty, nature, etc. that brings people out to a park would be what would motivate them to not trash the place, but sadly that assumption does not apply to 100% of park guests.

I think the majority of park guests are responsible and pack out what they brought in (if not collecting previous guest's mess, as well). Sadly, it only takes a few irresponsible and/or selfish people to make a thorough mess.

"Leave it cleaner than you found it."

That's what I practice and hopefully my kids will continue the tradition.

A mantra that far too few people follow unfortunately.

Re: 4th of July Trash

We stayed at Balmorhea State Park last weekend. I saw a lady throw her cigarette butt on the sidewalk near the pool, step on it, and walk away. It was all my friends could do to keep me from telling this lady where she could more appropriately dispose of her butt in the future.

Yes.

I am starting to notice it more here at the Frio along the parking spaces on the roads near the river crossings. Ranging from empty beer cans to diapers among other things. We have such a beautiful river and area and wish people would have the courtesy to keep it that way.
