2009 Reservations Have Been Made!

I finalized our trip plans and made all the rest of our reservations this morning. Here is what we have planned so far.

Mother's Day Weekend 2009
2 nights at Village Creek SP - canoe trip booked for Saturday through the Big Thicket

July 2009

Leave Houston in the AM and head for South Llano SP for 2 nights stay - plan to fish, swim and just relax
Leave South Llano in the AM and head to Davis Mountains SP for 4 nights - visit Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, ride horses at Prude Ranch, take scenic drive, day trip to swim at Balmorhea SP and try to get some hiking in
Leave Davis Mountains in the AM and head for Pedernales Falls SP for 3 nights - plan to do lots of hiking and swimming and take a day trip over to Longhorn Caverns for the cave tour
Leave in the AM and head back to civilization and reality

So that is what I have made reservations for. We also have a couple of other trips planned but don't have ressies yet because we dont know the exact dates. If anyone has suggestions on sites or alternate things to do please let me know. Can you rent tubes at South Llano or Pedernales Falls or do we have to bring our own?

In September just the dh and I will head to Caprock Canyons and Palo Duro for a week for his birthday. We are hoping to camp at Caprock Canyons and get a cabin at Palo Duro. He has to check his schedule first to see when he can take off before I can book this trip.

Also Easter weekend we have decided to head to Double Lakes. We never make ressies when we go and have never had a problem. The girls and I will be leaving on Thursday afternoon to try and secure our favorite spot. We will set up camp and be alone for a night - something we have never done before. The dh and the dog will join us after work on Friday.

If anyone is going to be at any of these places at the same time let me know!

With 3 nights at Perdernales, you need to go into Johnson City to see LBJ ranch. There is also a state park with pool there ( no camping there). Drive north to Burnet one day to see Longhorn cavern in the morning, like you mentioned, then go swim at Inks Lake at Devils Waterhole. It's a great place to swim. The gift shop by the boat ramp has loads of stuff, including ice cream! You can sit on the covered back porch to eat it in the shade, and watch people with their canoes and boats. I've never swam at Perdernales but I'm sure it's nice. The Hill Country rivers are so clear and cold.

Site 44 at Davis was nice.
Sites 9-18 at SLR are nice in the summer as there is some shade, and privacy from other sites. We also like 35-51 on the outside of the loop.
Perdernales has 2 restrooms, try to get close because they aren't in the most convenient spots.

Oh yes there is pretty much a burn ban everywhere in Texas. Funny there isn't a ban in the county I live in but there is in all the counties I want to visit. I am really hoping for lots of rain between now and July.

If you've never seen Enchanted Rock try to make a side trip when you're traveling from Fort Davis to Pedernales Falls to check it out. Doubtful you would feel much like hiking up it after all that driving but it's worth driving by, even if you don't go into the park.
