Opportunites to help out

May 2, 2009 — Daingerfield SP — Daingerfield CITO Event — Join park staff and volunteers to help clean up the park. Park entrance fees will be waived for all who participate. Trash bags and other materials provided. Meet at the day use pavilion. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (903) 645-2921.

May 2, 2009 — Purtis Creek SP — Lakeside Cleanup — Help clean up trash on the lake and along the shoreline. Some canoes provided or bring your own boat. 2-5 p.m. (903) 425-2332.

May 16, 2009 — Enchanted Rock SNA — Trail Project — Sponsored by the Friends of Enchanted Rock, volunteers meet to rebuild and restore trails at the park regardless of the weather. Groups and volunteers welcome. Bring hat, gloves, water, sunscreen, lunch and meet at the gazebo; tools provided. Held rain or shine. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (830) 685-3636.

May 30, 2009 — Blanco SP — Volunteer Day — This is an opportunity to help keep the park beautiful. Volunteers will work with park staff to pick up trash, pull weeds, remove invasive species, plant wildflowers and much more! Wear long pants and sturdy shoes; gloves and tools will be provided. Plan to arrive early to fill out required paperwork at Park Headquarters before work begins. 9 a.m.-noon (830) 833-4333.

June 6, 2009 — Bastrop SP — Trail Work Party — Want to meet like-minded people, learn new skills and find out why life is better outdoors? Join a Park Specialist for a short introduction to the park, trail building and restoration information and several hours of hands-on experience. All ages welcome; however, volunteers should be physically able to carry tools and equipment, hike at least two miles and laugh for sustained amounts of time. Bring sturdy footwear, work gloves, a bag lunch, water, a hat and sunscreen. Meet at the Refectory parking lot. 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; reservations required, (512) 321-3740. (512) 321-2101
