Wildlife Management Areas

Has anyone ever done any hiking, backpacking, or camping at a Wildlife Management Area? Places like Granger, in the Hill Country; Black Gap or Elephant Mountain, in the Big Bend; Matador, in the Panhandle; or the multitudes in east Texas. If so, are there well marked trails, campsites and the like?

The most hiking Justin and I have done so far in a Wildlife Management Area (in Texas) was a Walter E. Buck WMA, which adjoins South Llano River State Park. We've been to Kerr WMA a few times (and it's been more than several years), but there was just a long self-guided road tour through the various ecosystems -- no trails, off-road travel.

It may not be an exhaustive list, but we have 48 wildlife management areas listed here on WildTexas.com. No ratings or personal reviews yet of those, however.

I've done Walter Buck also. It's a nice place, too bad they don't allow backpacking there. I'd really like to try Black Gap or Elephant Mountain. Well, thanks for the info.
