Once again the Parks folks did a great job of bring folks outside. Had a good time at the Expo in Austin. Watched some shows, walked the gounds got wet on a kyack, tried a lot of wild game. And best part nice sunny day with no sunburn (by us)

This is a fun day and chance to visit with folks from all the parks. Lots of activities including Kyack (they provide a big pool and the stuff), scuba (yes in a wet suit they provide) shooting (rifles, bows) fishing for live fish, and much more.

For my I recommend this for your next year visit to Austin

Sounds awesome! We will definitely bring Sara to next year's. It just didn't land on our radar in time and our weekends have been filling up for awhile with family from out of town and other annual events (Siesta Valley Ranch Walk in Medina, Texas, etc.)

We drove up there on Sunday. One of the booth workers suggested we start off with the rock tower climbing since it got crowded fast. Son almost made it to the very top, 4 rocks away. His fear of heights and tired little muscles just couldn't take him further. We walked through the tents of our state parks. They were grouped by region. The guy from the Panhandle looked familiar. Turns out we saw him a few times this summer while staying at Palo Duro. There was a "calf roping" area just outside their end of the tent and son had a blast roping. We made some simple crafts with the staff of various parks. Good thing we brought our backpacks. They were full by the end of the day. Jason and Stacy from South Llano were there. I had taken a picture of Jason with a fawn in July and made a copy for him. We visited with them a while ( they also suggested we NOT have hamburgers for lunch).

The living history section was great. My son loves that stuff. I know he will do well in history class. We took a turn around at the trout tank. They let 30 or so people go at a time, when the five minutes is up, they clear the pool and get 30 more anglers. Only 4 fish were caught in our round. We caught one of them. YEA! From there we went through the fishing area, casting for accuracy etc.

We stopped for lunch and caught the Sea World show. On the way out, we stopped to make a few purchases and a visit through the snake display. I started to take pictures but was having so much fun myself, I forgot about the camera.

If you like to go outside, or know some kids who think outside is boring, take them to the Expo next year.

CM, you got a good tip on not eating the burgers they were the only bad part of the day, they were made earlier in the week I believe and reheated till dry. (Good thing I hit the wild game tasting, then the County Line BBQ that night (YUM)

Your correct this is a great outing for a family to HEAR about the parks and TALK to people from them.
