Wild Texas Survey

This is as unscientific as a survey can get, but nonetheless, the feedback it generates will be very useful.

Reply in whatever manner suits you -- you can do so in this thread, or if you'd rather not broadcast your info., you may send me a Private Message here or an email to wildtexas [at] gmail [dot] com

SURVEY QUESTIONS
---------------------

1.) Do you currently have a website or web presence where you share your photos and/or trip reports/travelogues?
Examples include:
- other outdoor recreation/travel websites;
- a personal website (your own domain name);
- a personal website (through your ISP, such as AOL or Roadrunner)
- a "blog" or online journal (Blogger, Yahoo, Wordpress, Greymatter, etc.)
- a Flickr.com photo gallery
* Please share the web addresses/URLs if you have any of these you don't mind sharing.

2.) Do you send emails to friends and family either before or after a trip/outing to share information, stories and/or photos about the trip?

3.) Regardless of your answers to #1 & #2, if WildTexas.com provided hosting for a web presence/blog/online journal where each member could share their trip reports/travelogues and photos:
3a. - would you use such a feature, yourself?
3b. - would you read other user's sites/posts?

4.) If you answered "No" to either #3a. or #3b., why might you not use such a feature? Explain.

5.) Does the type of feature explained in #3 (a WildTexas.com-hosted web presence/blog/online journal where each member can share their trip reports/travelogues/photos) have a dollar value to you, or is it something you'd expect would be free of charge?
If you think it has a dollar value under special circumstances, such as for a guaranteed amount of disk space (for photos, etc.) or other additional features/options, let us know as well.

6.) Do you have any questions you need answered before you can answer this survey? If so, contact me before responding and I'll do my best to clarify.

Thanks, All!

Re: Wild Texas Survey

Hey, I'm always game for guinea pigging..

1.)
Nope..

2.)
Sometimes, but not regularly.

3a.)
I might, if it was easy.

3b.)
If they interested me.

4.)
If the system was too complicated or if the other readers got ugly.. adios muchachos.

5.)
If it's free then I have low expectations. If a fee is charged, then I'd want to know what I could expect in terms of goods and services. For example, if I could email you my picture files, or something like that.. and you made them look lovely, and me more handsome and daring, well.. that could be big!

Seriously, I don't think I would pay a large amount for a blogging/picture hosting service unless it was different/superior to the current free services.

Adios,

It would need to be free, but could be supported by advertisers. Nature tourism is big business.

I put some pictures on the evil site. I'll post the link but urge you all not to go there.

I like to do this but usually don't have the time to kill.

I would definitely read other people's reports. I'd make my own if it didn't take too much time.

I don't have a lot of time to spend geeking.

I can't imagine putting enough stuff on it to justify paying for it. But that depends on just how cool the feature is.

You are one of my cyber heros, Shannon. Keep up the good work.

Re: Wild Texas Survey

I answered these questions more intelligently yesterday but they didn't post for some reason.

1) I post trip reports on forums and pictures on the evil "thebackpacker" site ( http://www.thebackpacker.com/pictures/user/toejam.php - don't go there, it's evil). The pictures look really good on this site but need to be broken up into chunks smaller than "Texas Park & Landscapes."

2) I like to do detailed reports with pictures but usually don't have that much time to kill.

3) I would definitely look at other people's stuff and would use it myself if it didn't take much time to do.

5) The issue is ease of use - if it was easy and convenient I could pay a little.

Keep up the good work, Shannon. You're one of my cyber heros!

I'm having a really hard time posting this. Lost one reply yesterday and another today!

Re: Wild Texas Survey

Sorry about the posting troubles, Toejam. Did the website or forum error out on you somehow, or was it some other issue?

(Thanks to everyone who's responded so far!)

Ouch! I'm sorry about that. Everything looks fine from this end -- no errors logged, no messages stuck in moderation queue that shouldn't be there, etc. Apologies for the glitches.

Yes, I have a website where I report my trips and logs.

Not usually, they all know about the site!

Yes, if I were to get into the habit, I would use it and I would definately read others' stories while I have none to tell.

I agree that if it isn't easy, I might not bother with it. Posting by email might work better for some.

I have to agree with Cube on this one.

Hope this helps!

Re: Wild Texas Survey

1) No

2) No

3a) I would like to get in the habit of doing this because of 3b... been too lazy so far.

3b) Very definately. I always try to find as many trip reports as I can about a site from a regular user like myself before I book or go to a new location. Photos are an added bonus.

4) n/a

5) I honestly couldn't see myself participating if there was a fee involved. I would still lurk, if possible, to read others but I wouldn't pay to post.

Re: Wild Texas Survey

You'll never have to pay to post here on WildTexas.com. None of the functionality currently offered is ever going to be charged for, and the survey is just to get a feel for the perceived usefulness/demand of additional features that would require some initial investment on our part to get going.

No fear. Enjoy the website. It's free and always will be.
