This thread was created to answer a question
nichele posed
here in another thread -- specifically, she asked how long Justin and I have been married. We will celebrate our
fifth wedding anniversary on December 12. I'm 29 years old and Justin's 32... neither of us think of ourselves as much beyond the age of 22, however.
The longer, more interesting answer, however is that Jus and I have been together for about 14 years now, having met online back in the days
before the Internet {insert "oohs" and "aahs" from the audience

} He ran an Amiga computer-based computer
Bulletin Board System (BBS) named "DreamScape" and, shortly after meeting him online, I set up my own PC-based BBS named "Tranquility Base" (after the lunar base, as in "Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.") BBS's were similar to the website community forums of today -- places you could chat with folks about many different topics, swap files or graphics (if you didn't mind waiting 1 hour to download a 100KB file -- ACK!!

), play text-based online games and so forth. In many ways, it was more personal than the Internet is... because you typically 'knew' or got to know the person who owned and ran the BBS's you called most frequently. Contrast that to the number of websites you go to versus the number of web site owners/administrators you actually know or converse with... not many, right?
Anyway, suffice it to say that Justin and I have a long history of being geeks -- I have
my geek habitat to prove it!

We also have a long history together, and I think one reason our relationship's thrived so well is because we both love sharing our passions and knowledge with other people and we are interested in complimentary things -- photography & writing, travel/outdoor recreation, aviation/aerial photography. We each have our primary interests, for example I don't have the passion for flying aircraft that Justin does yet I have discovered a passion for flying with him as a passenger and taking photos. Similarly, I have a passion for camping out in virtually any conditions -- Padre Island National Seashore on a windy day (gee, that would be ANY day) with the sand blasting your skin... Justin, while an adventurer and outdoors enthusiast in his own right, has some sanity when it comes to conditions like that. So, I've started making some forays on my own, short camping trips by myself that I come back and share with him via photographs and reports (which, by the way, need to be put online... more for my "to do" list!).
I hope that gives nichele, and everyone else, a better view into who these folks "
Shannon & Justin" are that work behind the scenes on
WildTexas.com and post all these photos and trip reports about our travels in the hopes that others will enjoy and benefit from them.
Have fun, all! That's what life is for/about... have fun, and share it with those around you!
