Where to stay at Fort Davis ?

We are planing a trip to Fort Davis in October and attemting to decide where to stay. The last trip we stayed at The Veranda Bed and Breakfast (which was very nice and GREAT BREAKFASTS). We are contemplating the Indian Lodge at Davis Mountains State Park. I would appreciate a recommendation. We want to be close to photographic opportunities. Any suggestions would be appreciated on any interesting side trips etc. Thanks, dak1

I don't have any personal experience with lodging in Fort Davis, but here's a link to our Web Guide's search results for "Fort Davis". Hope this helps!

Thumbs up Indian Lodge

I have stayed in the Indian Lodge three times over the past decade and have not been disappointed. My tastes are more rustic than most, but it is clean and has a decent restuarant.

Dak1,

I've been following up with all the folks who posted "We're taking a trip in 2002..." posts to see how their trips went. Did you have a pleasant trip?

We'd appreciate if you would share your favorite tales or observations from the trip, to help others plan their travels in that neck of the woods.

Thumbs up

Last April we camped at Davis Mountain State Park with a group of Model T'ers. Three couples camped and the remainder stayed in Indian Lodge. We ate several meals there which were good and very reasonable. I did not see the room accomodations but no one in our group complained. The location (being virtually surrounded by the park) is ideal for the area. When we were there two years ago, the ranger was putting out corn at night for the deer. Last spring I believe they discontinued that practice but we did see plenty wandering across camp sites and road.

Be sure and drive up the road to see the sunrise/sunset overlook in the park. Even if the sun is neither rising nor setting, the view is wonderful.

I recommend the observatory daytime tour and, hopefully, there will be something going on in the evening too. We enjoyed both.

Diann
