What's on YOUR Wish List?
Okay, gang, what camping/hiking/outdoor recreation gear is on your wish list this holiday season? New GPS? Hiking boots? Camp stove? Do tell!
I'm living viciarously through you guys this season, since "all" I'm asking for this Christmas and birthday (I'm a December baby, born 3 days after Christmas) are baby-related items or items that will make my life easier as a brand new Mom come April 2007.
That, and we're pretty well outfitted in the camping and hiking gear department. I do need to get my mountain bike retrofitted or sell it and get one better proportioned for the female anatomy (mine forces my arms to lock at the elbows just to reach them, causing numbness and pain). And at some point I hope to get a road bike so I can join Justin on his road cycling, since he's adopted that as a part of his healthy lifestyle and most of the folks he rides with (including all the crew he road with for the MS-150 "Bike to the Beach") have fallen off their riding routines.

Re: What's on YOUR Wish List?
We just went to Lost Maples for the Thanksgiving holiday so we pretty much bought everything we needed for the year. (We are mostly winter campers - we don't have any "AC" for our tent and it's not too much fun in the summer.)
I did want to share with you my version of a camp oven. Since we were going to be cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I wanted to make some casseroles. I looked at several ovens, but none seemed to be worth the money so I made my own.
We bought 2 lasagna foil pans for each dish. All you need to do is make/find something to set on your stove to put a little distance between the fire and the foil pans (we used metal racks from my husbands smoker). We then set the pan on top of the rack, put the food in it, put another one one top upside down and sealed it with clothespins. Worked like a charm - maybe even better than I would have thought the Coleman oven would have worked.
I guess it's a little off subject, but when I saw camp stove it made me think of the oven. We typically eat better when we are camping and have come up with many ways to do "indoor" things outdoor!

Something so precious, I sometimes wonder if I can afford it even though it's free. TIME. Time to get outdoors.

New boots - something with Vibram soles but not too heavy, and hopefully on sale!
I ordered some new prescription sunglasses with birthday money - looking forward to getting those.
GPS still hasn't made it onto my wish list - I still don't have time to mess with one.

I hear you on that one! Even before we had the "excuse", Justin and I had let work and other responsibilities take over our once deeply ingrained habit of camping or hiking several times a month. Of course I should be fair to us, we did incorporate bicycling (just us, or just and friends from work, or more recently, us and family including grandparents and niece and nephew.)
But my passion is camping and hiking and I do miss it... I could do a bit of hiking still now (had an AWESOME time hiking during our week in Rocky Mountain NP in early October), but walking is more up my alley for now.

Re: What's on YOUR Wish List?
Around here, we just can't wait 'til Christmas. I went and purchased 2 20 degree sleeping bags. We're camping at a Scout camp this weekend and the electric blankets need to stay at home. What are they trying to do to us?!
