Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
We're in San Antonio, so it's easy to be surprised by an approaching/building storm in the Gulf. Just a heads up for others in South Texas --
Tropical Storm Dolly (tracking, landfall & development probabilities, etc.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
She is now a Category 1 Hurricane and from the looks of things we should definitely see some rejuvenating rains from Hurricane, and we already have some light winds from it as far north as San Antonio and Austin. http://tinyurl.com/64cwxk
Batten down the hatches if you're closer to the line of fire, and follow all instructions from authorities regarding evacuation.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
Shannon, Thanks for the heads up, so many people can be unaware. We went down to Galveston Island State Park for a day trip yesterday and we could tell the waves were a little more choppy. This morning was yard work time and it was unusually breezy. Definitely something in the air. It is very still right now. We are about 35 minutes from Galveston byway of Hwy. 6 and much less as the crow flies (I always wanted to say that) so we always keep an eye on the weather in case we have to evacuate the horses. Looks like we will come out ok but I know my Frio River friends are hoping for some rain. I hope we all get what we want, some calm weather for us and maybe a good rain storm for them. I will post again if it gets hinky.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
We're hoping to get some soaking rains from this system.
If you have a rain guage in your yard, post your totals from the storm.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
I'm in north of Houston and we've seen some rain from Dolly but not much. I'm happy we didn't get a direct hit because I've never been in a hurricane before.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
I know it is not over yet but as of now, I'm gonna go out and water my plants tomorrow as it appears we are not in line for any rain. We got a small sprinkle this morning but nothing else.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
We ended up with 1.75 inches of rain for the two days, which helped tremendously.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
I was waiting to make sure we were done with Dolly and it appears so. We got just a touch over an inch and a half of rain and the large part came on Thursday early morning, around 4:30 am until maybe 10:30 am. Not as much as I expected but enough. It did get windy and there are some small limbs to pick up, no biggy. Back to camping and cooking I'd say!

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
By midday yesterday we had .81 inches. I forgot to check this morning after we had additional rains. It was oppressively hot and humid today--back to normal, in other words.

Re: Tropical Storm Dolly (2008)
The rain guage I use is my inground pool. Between 11 and 1 pm Thursday I had to pump out 4 inches to get it down to normal. We had a lot of road flooding in my little town but within an hour of the last deluge, most of it had drained off and/or soaked in. An elderly driver skirted a road block at the highway underpass and floated around a bit before a tow truck driver waded in and hand-pushed her car to where it touched ground again. That was sort of funny to see. Poor lady was embarrassed but unhurt. Can't say that about her car though...
