Tower Of The Americas in SA

Those of you in San Antonio might be able to help me out with info on the restaurant at the top of the Tower. I had heard that it was closed for renovation under new ownership.
I'm wondering if it's back open yet and, if so, how's the food? I know there's not a better view of the city from the observation deck.

:thanks:

The restaurant atop San Antonio's Tower of the Americas is owned and operated by Landry's Restaurants. It is renovated and ready for business.

I can't vouche for it myself since we haven't been to the Tower since the restaurant was reopened.

Haven't been up in that thing since 1985, though I've visited the city many times. I did get some nice pics overlooking the city at night when I was there.

Had no idea about it having a restaurant. Does it rotate?

It used to rotate. I assume it still does. The way the food used to taste (before Landry's took over), you would rather the place didn't rotate, IMHO.

Yeah, it still rotates. That's one of the attractions of the place. We didn't have time to eat there this time. But we went all the way to the top to the observation deck. Man, was it breezy. Just imagine when the temps are in the forties. If the Landry's folks now own the restaurant, it should be at least decent food. They own all of the restaurants on the Kemah Boardwalk on Galveston Bay too. (This guy is a Donald Trump wannabe without the bad hair. )
Also with the price of admission to the Tower, you get to see a show called "Texas 4-D". You watch the show wearing 3-D glasses with the fourth dimension being able to feel certain things happening to you like the breeze from the helicopter blades. I won't spoil it for you but it's really cool. I'll go back next time I'm in San Antonio.

We ate there last spring and the food was really good but, boy! howdy! were they ever proud of it! My BIL had a pasta dish and it cost $25. Noodles with chicken and some green peas. That was one of the "cheap" dishes. Our total bill for 4, with tea as the beverage and excluding the tip, came to over $130. Take lots of money. Very nice place for a special date. Casually elegant I think would best describe it. And yes, it still rotates.

My wife and I and our five kids ate there over the summer. The food was delicious. I had venison. I'd get it again! The total bill was over $200, but that was for five people. Yes, I believe Landry's took over. I'm from the town in Louisiana where the original Landry's was built.
