This Friday I set out on a road trip from LA to Austin and back. I'll take a couple of weeks and spend much of the time in Texas. Other than stopping at Canyon de Chelly, I have no itinerary other than to head in the general direction of Austin, and return via the El Paso route. Looking at a map it seemed to me it might be nice to avoid the Interstate and head to Austin via Lubbock and the state highways for a more interesting ride. I'll entertain anyone's suggestions about what pieces of Texas wilderness and what great short hikes I absolutely must not miss.
