A Telephone Call from “Mr. Ranger”, 11/06
I took a short vacation to McCown Valley Park (COE) on Whitney Lake, Texas this last weekend. Unlike nearly all of my trips, DW was not with me on this one. Instead, it was decided that I would have a “Man’s Weekend” and I was accompanied by my son, son-in-law, his dad and my grandson. We had a great four days highlighted by fishing, swapping lies, the consumption of much grill cooked meat and other such manly pastimes. We returned home Sunday feeling great and knowing that we had done our best to uphold the standards of all men everywhere.
On Tuesday, DW received an e-mail from our daughter, our grandson’s mother. I felt that it was just too good to keep to myself. Should give you an idea of what it was like to be around my grandson for four days. Enjoy.
Hey Mom,
Just wanted to tell you about a call I got today and wasn't sure if I was going to have time to talk to you this evening, so I thought I would e-mail so I wouldn't forget.
Well, this morning I get a call from “Mr. Ranger” at McCown Valley Park. He nicely asks me to please send him back the parks "dirt". I said “I am sorry, what did you say?” and he repeats that he wants me to send back the park’s "dirt". At this point I am trying not to laugh and tell him I don't know of any dirt. I mean yes my son come home filthy, and that his clothes were standing up on their own when he removed them but that I didn't notice any more dirt then there normally is on him after returning home from a camping trip. Well, Mr. Ranger went on to explain to me that the animals were spraining legs and falling down because of the unlevel ground around the guy’s camp sites, and that if I happened to find any of the park’s dirt would I please send it back. I assured him that I would do it and I got of the phone with “Mr. Crazy” as fast as I could.
Sounds like the end, huh? Nope!
Couple of hours later I got started with my laundry, including the bag of the guys’ laundry from the weekend. Well apparently something (raccoons, opossums) decided to play a trick on my guys. There were at least one, maybe two shovels of dirt in the bottom of their laundry bag! I couldn't believe my eyes. Oh well. I sent the park back their dirt and now I know to tell the guys to watch their laundry bag next time.
Have a great night. Love ya'!

It’s just too good not to share. Also, keep watching as I’ll have a review of McCown Park up in a week or so.
Happy Camping!
