Question Summer Plans 2009

Very quiet around here so here is a start.

What are your plans for summer 2009?

We are headed to Glacier National Park in Montana in July for a week of hiking and fun in the mountains.

Trying to work a camping trip to San Antonio area for August (but work is interfering!)

Re: Summer Plans 2009

Day tripped to South Llano a few weeks ago.
Overnight at Rockport this past weekend, with a day spent at Mustang Island.
July 2 weeks in Colorado (Rocky Mountain NP and Colorado Springs)
August 1 week South Llano ( work permitting)

I am gearing up for the road trip. 12 more days!

Re: Summer Plans 2009

We're going to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Parks for 3 days each. Probably won't have much time to do any hiking at Yellowstone since it's such a big park and we have so little time to see everything.
We'll have more time to do backcountry hiking in the Tetons. With the overnight lows in the 40's and daytime highs of 70, we couldn't ask for a better temperature profile for our trip.

Re: Summer Plans 2009

Both are excellent parks if you haven't view the NPS web site for short hikes in yellowstone, especially the canyon are, the falls at yellowstone are really great if its been wet winter Yellowstone National Park - Trip Planners to Specific Park Areas (U.S. National Park Service)

The park is BIG, better to hit some spots then try for all see bison note below

At grand teton, take the ride and hike at Jenny lake

for both parks have the camera ready lots of wildlife, although by the 10th time that the bison block the road in yellowstone it does get a little old, some days they did not block the road at all.

Re: Summer Plans 2009

We are going to Cooper Lake - South Sulphur the last weekend in August. Then going to Disney World for a week in September.

No dates yet, but we are talking about an extended family trip to Garner in the early fall.

Cooper South is one of our favorite spots, if you have not been look for trip reports with links to pictures. We were there not along ago.

Re: Summer Plans 2009

Sorry I've been so quiet, myself, lately. We have no plans for the summer really. Sprucing up our backyard a tiny bit (really tiny yard, so really tiny bit ;-)) since it gets a nice breeze and shade in the early evening when Justin gets home from work and teaching his photography class. Kidlet's also spending a lot of time with me at my folks' house during some summer days, playing in their huge yard and enjoying their new hot tub in the evenings (OK, OK, her mom--me--is really probably enjoying the hot tub, as well *grin*)

Justin and I are still bicycling and have decided we'll be doing the Conquer the Coast ride (one Justin, his brother, father and bro-in-law have all done before; I'll be the only greenhorn in the group) instead of Tour de Gruene... didn't realize the Gruene ride was on/the morning after Halloween! In 2010, hope to do the MS-150 which Justin and his work crew have done before, but which I was pregnant for and missed when they rode. Riders raise money for the Multiple Schlerosis Society.

So, mostly just focusing on staying close to home and family and getting exercise in. Tent probably won't see any use again until the temperatures are sane, except perhaps if I can convince the kidlet to help me wash it in the backyard soon. It needs a nice sponge-down from our last trip and storage in the garage before it can come back in the house. ;-)

Re: Summer Plans 2009

Our summer plans have already happened for us, for the most part. We spent almost a week on the Frio River near Garner State Park. Good weather and so much fun. The weather, for us (near Houston) has been insane. The humidity here is unmerciful. After coming back from the Hill Country we could hardly breath, this has happened to me over the years and now as I (gently) enter older age (gently, I said) it is getting harder each time. I have been hibernating since coming back from the Frio River. We will be doing a few weekends to several places, like a 4th of July celebration near Round Top and many visits to friends at Jamaica Beach near Galveston. I highly recommend visiting the Hill Country if you are camping as we were just there and spent 90% of our time outside and never felt uncomfortable. We had cool mornings and pleasant evenings everyday we were there. I would turn around right now and go again if finances and time allowed it. I will be one of the people visiting the newly reopening of beachside Galveston Island State Park next week and if I can follow instructions from this website, I may be able to show some pictures too.

Re: Summer Plans 2009

We spent last Sunday at Mustang Island State Park. Perfect day for the beach. Light breeze, no seaweed, moderate waves, plenty of sand and snacks.

5 more days until COLORADO!
