Starhopping at Palo Dura Canyon - Wild Texas Forums: Parks, Travel & Recreation

Does anyone have any experiences with the sky conditions over Palo Dura Canyon, (ie. light pollution)? I'm planning a camping trip in early June and Palo Dura looks like it would be an excellent place. I also do some hiking and mountain biking though not so much of the latter. If anyone knows of a good site there thats enough away from the beaten paths that car lights won't be a problem and the park rangers won't be upset with me I would greatly appreciate it.

I think we had solid overcast the night I spent at Palo Duro (night overnight -- was there after an ill-timed day hike to enjoy the outdoor musical, "TEXAS").

However, I imagine it's got to be fairly decent "dark sky" country out there... barring any ill-placed nighttime park illumination after the musical, since the musical's got pyrotechnics and such. Wish I had more direct insight to share. I believe the musical only runs in the summer (it's a well-done production, BTW -- not knocking it except as a warning for potential stargazers.)
