Spring in the Air!

I don't know how the weather's been elsewhere in Texas, but things are definitely on a spring-like progression here -- warmer daytime temperatures, rain showers and occasional thunderstorms and intense bird activity. While geocaching last Friday, for example, Justin and I heard what sounded like a flock of turkeys... it was far off, and took several moments to properly identify -- it was a large flock of sandhill cranes! We couldn't spot them, but it was a healthy sized flock and probably was enjoying a farm field on the border's of Guadalupe River State Park.

I'll be camping this weekend, and was wondering who else has started their springtime camping season off already? Any memorable trips to share... or trips you're planning and counting the days 'til? My trip's just to get my "rusty" camping muscles exercised with a couple night's car camping. Weather should be splendid, despite how the radar looks today.

Just wanted to check in... ya'll have fun, you hear?

P.S. Start making your spring wildflower plans now! (You can bookmark our Web Guide's "Wildflowers" section for wildflower viewing reports and info statewide.)

I was reviewing photos Justin and I have taken during previous years, and as early as March 9th has yielded some impressive stands of wildflowers at San Antonio area locales. Of course, conditions vary each year -- I think we've got a couple week's before the conditions will be starting to generate real interest. That said, we visited the San Antonio Botanical Gardens two weeks ago and things were already quite green and lush, and the purple martins were back in residence...

Re: Spring in the Air!

Heading out soon... if you happen to be at Guadalupe River State Park today (Friday) or tomorrow, give a wave/yell. Be warned, though, I'm always armed with a camera so unless you're quick, you might end up serving as the "perspective" in one of my photos (eg. "Ah, look how small that person is compared to that ... tree/trail/bluff/etc." )

Enjoy the weekend -- after the wicked storms yesterday, it should be a fairly nice outdoor activity weekend!

Re: Spring in the Air!

The girlfriend and I are meeting up with another trail friend and heading out to hike the Richards Loop section of LST this weekend. Hope to get in ~26miles and some good pictures! Next week I have so much going on at work, I think my head may start spinning. I have an AutoCAD seminar to attend Monday and Tuesday, a utility construction meeting Wednesday, and much work to get caught up on from a new contract with a local school district before the next week. I will be going to Bandelier National Monument for a week long backpacking trip there with two other trail friends. Really looking forward to that!!! Definitely counting the days. With that, I'm somewhat thankful I have such a busy week next week - pass the time.

Hope you and everyone else has a wonderful weekend! I will share my pictures from LST when I get a chance next week. And I look forward to my submittal for my "free study" challenge for March on DPChallenge. Hope to get some awesome shots of the cliff dwellings and submit them. Shannon, I recommend that you check out the DPChallenge.com site. It is really a lot of fun! Gives you some great ideas for taking pictures.

Happy trails,
LBF

Re: Spring in the Air!

oh god... AutoCAD.... you had to bring that up, didn't you?

my husband, some friends, and I went to Pedernales Falls SP sunday afternoon/evening- a photography adventure of sorts. It was beautiful up there! although, I must admit, the river flow seemed a bit lower than it has in the past year (which is my entire baseline reference for the area).

we've planned and cancelled two car camping trips already this spring. So I may be ahead of you, Shannon, in planning, but way behind in execution...

spring is definately in the air. I planted new plants today. thats a rareity.
