San Antonio Now 7th Largest City
I remember when we were the 9th or 10th largest city.
Now, we are the 7th largest city in the United States, and a toll roads debate (and how to fund it) is raging.
Progress, eh?
Here's the breakdown, with Texas cities bolded:
LARGEST CITIES IN THE USA:
1.) New York
2.) Los Angeles
3.) Chicago
4.) Houston
5.) Philadelphia
6.) Phoenix
7.) San Antonio
8.) San Diego
9.) Dallas
10.) San Jose

NOTE: This data is based on population projections and other data. It is not the official U.S. Census data, the next Census isn't until 2010.

Re: San Antonio Now 7th Largest City
Katrina had a great deal to do with the growth.

Probably so, although I have a feeling no one has an accurate take on how many people were displaced to which cities nor how long they stayed there vs. moving on somewhere else. Judging by the trouble FEMA had with accounting for money, I don't think they had any more luck accounting for individuals.

I would reckon that "immigration" played a part, as well.

Re: San Antonio Now 7th Largest City
Guess that just goes to show what an appealing place San Antonio is to everyone.

Actually no, it didn't.

From July 2004 to July 2005, San Antonio's population grew by 21,420 people, with 1,256,509 people living within the city limits. During the same period, San Diego's population dropped by 8,276 people to 1,255,540, according to the report.

The numbers they're using are from before Katrina happened in late August.

As it says, the numbers they are using are from before Katrina hit New Orleans in late August.

Immigration?
LOL, that would have an effect on Houston and Dallas before it did San Antonio.
And why would that be the reason seeing how most are undocumented meaning the Census people would have no way of listing them.
That's why they go unlisted in every Census, every ten years.
Also, the yearly estimated are that, estimated using a method.
They don't count heads they just estimate, they count heads every ten years. That's when we'll know the true numbers. However I see us at the number 6 spot by 2010.
