Smile request for assistance in research matter

Hi y'all!

My name is Barbara Klett from Würzburg in Germany. I studied as an exchange student from the University of Würzburg at the University of Texas at Austin during the academic year 1999-2000. My stay in Texas was a very enriching and enjoyable experience for me.

At the moment I am a linguistics graduate student at the University of Würzburg. I am currently writing my thesis and I chose " Texas regional vocabulary" as the topic for it. Therefore I recently created a little online-questionnaire about Texas regional words which is designed to be filled out by Texans, which means people who grew up in Texas and who have spent most of their lives in Texas so far. With the questionnaire, I would like to find out which words are more in usage than others in Texas nowadays and which words are primarily used in which areas of Texas. My online-questionnaire is just a few pages long and therefore shoud not take much time to complete.
I wanted to ask you if you could fill out my questionnaire and could also forward it to friends of yours who are from Texas. I would be very grateful to you for that as I would need many Texans from different backgrounds, age groups and areas of Texas for my little research about Texas regional words. I would be very glad if you could help me in this matter.
My online-questionnaire is available under the following link:

Texas regional vocabulary

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Many greetings from Germany!

Yours,

Barbara

Re: request for assistance in research matter

Barbara,

I enjoyed the survey -- it was actually fun reading some of the alternate words for some things. There were a couple questions that had limited answers (two or three), none of which were common terms to me, so I left those blank. For those, I would have checked a "None of the above" box or had a different word to type in to an "If other, please specify:" field.

There are a couple words that are so close in my personal usage that I had to think hard about which I use more often, such as "cabinet" versus "cupboard".

Anyway, best of luck with your research and I hope your studies and travels bring you back to Texas again someday!
