Palo Duro Canyon SP - RV site recommendations? - Wild Texas Forums: Parks, Travel & Recreation

We would like to take a trip out to this park either Memorial Day or Independence Day weekend. Primative or hookups, doesn't matter...we just want a nice site in what appears to be a very beautiful park.

Been eons since I was last at Palo Duro Canyon, and we didn't camp during that visit. Rangers could probably recommend the most popular (favorite) spots over the phone. You'd want one with a tree, if possible, as shade is at a premium there. But you'd also like to face the beautiful cliffs -- great sunrise/sunset views (it's a canyon, so you've got about a 75% chance of having a nice cliff view, assuming another RV isn't blocking it.

You should stay at the Caprock Canyon State Park. The area is beautiful. Check out the journeys page on my website. Our very first RV trip went through there.

Oops. I guess I posted before I finished. I have been to both places; and yes, I would stay at Caprock Canyon State Park versus Palo Duro State Park. I do not believe Palo Duro SP has any RV sites at all. If you have a big rig, you might have problems in the campground.

Caprock Canyon SP is about 100 miles from Palo Duro SP. There is a wonderful trailway for biking, buffalo and miles and miles of the most wonderful red canyonlands ...

Back to your question ...

There is an RV park not far from the Palo Duro SP. If you do not mind staying right in Amarillo, you may want to splurge.

We stayed for free in Dumas, Texas, which is 45 miles north of Amarillo.

Hold up, there, CyberCelt. MissionCamper, there are indeed RV sites at Palo Duro Canyon SP.

P.S. That last "Unregistered" user comment was actually me. I forgot to login while I was borrowing my Dad's PC during a visit to watch the Winter Olympics w/the family. And since I was posting as unregistered, it went into my handy-dandy moderation queue.

Actually they have many.

Although mine is a small 17' trailer, I've seen pics of the big rigs at this park as well. Thanks for your input Eileen, I will consider Caprock.
