New from Dallas

Hi everyone,

I am a city slicker chick with a yearning to get out and about into the wildnerness and outdoors as much as I can. I grew up in Wisconsin, family is from Arkansas originally boaters and fishermen, moved to Dallas in '84. Love to fish and I can bait a hook with the best of them, although I'd rather use chicken livers he he.

We LOVE the water especially the beach and ocean.

Lately, the city has been getting to me and we are about to pack up the tent and head OUT.

Glad to be here and I look forward to sharing information, stories, and experiences.

Karen in Dallas

Hi Kelly B,

I live in Carrollton, moving back to Richardson, and work near the Galleria and desperately need to get away from this traffic nightmare that is the metroplex in the summer!

Re: New from Dallas

Welcome everyone from Dallas!! There are a few of us who can't stand the city! I grew up in a small (5,000) north-central Kansas town. My husband's job is why we're here but I'm forever wanting to get out of the city and into a tent. Unfortunately, he's not a big lover of camping.

Mine was not into tent camping at first and still would rather be in a pop up or shelter. But once I got him into the hill country of Texas, in particular the Frio River area - all I have to do now is say "Let's go! It's time for a Hill Country fix!". Good luck!

West of San Antonio. A lot of people like Garner State Park on the Frio but its not for us. Nothing wrong with it. Just not to our taste.

Welcome aboard and happy camping!

Garner can be extremely hard to get into and crowded during peak times. However the Frio river valley is very scenic an there are a lot of private campgrounds to choose from. We used to stay all the time at Richeys which then became Yearnigans. Just up the river from Garner, very nice and very quiet

Re: New from Dallas

Neal's Lodge is on the Frio in Concan (rustic cabins and a great swimming hole) and we have stayed across the river from Garner at Parkside Riverview RV park. Our favorite place to camp is at Lost Maples State Natural Area near Vanderpool. The Frio doesn't run through it but the Sabinal has its beginnings there. And it's a little more than a 1/2 hour drive from LM to Garner and the Frio along one of the most beautiful roads I've been on in the hill dountry.

We are around the Dallas area and go camping about once a month...mainly at State parks in the area. Would like to have some fellow campers join up for a camping trip one weekend. Newbies or old timers More the merrier
