My hat is off to campers

I have to say, I check this site at least twice a day and it appears there is less camping right now or no one is talking about it. I admire anyone that is camping in this really hot weather we are having. I was talking to my in-laws this evening and Dad said the weather station thermometer showed 105 this afternoon. They are midway between Dallas and Houston. I might kinda doubt that but our weather station is usually pretty acurate and we have the same one. We are waiting for October but yall have fun.

Camping this time of year is tough, but not impossible. Find a site that offers good shade. Keep plenty of water (not soda or beer) handy. And go to a place with good swimming. You adjust to the heat after a while. But I would definitely limit my camping to the lower humidity parts of the state and avoid the coastal areas. Humidity will get you before the heat will.

Very good suggestions shade is always a priority for us, water to drink and swim in helps too. You adjust some but its still HOT. When I take pictures I try to find shade spots in the bunch for future use. Now on the lower humidity location, Daingerfield in east Texas was real nice for lack of humidity in early July, Tawakoni was not bad either neither as dry as west Texas but then you have dust devils to deal with

Re: My hat is off to campers

I know one thing. It is too dang hot for me and DW to be camping:thumbsdown:. Could go but would spend at least 75 percent of the time inside the "5th", keeping cool. Can't see that. Might as well stay home where I have a bit more room to spread out. At least here, I can "remote camp" through Wild Texas and PUX!

Now, come about the first of October (or sooner, if the heat breaks up before that) and see how fast I get out there:thumbsup:!!! Fall, winter and spring are coming and it will bring another great camping season for me and DW. Also, we're looking forward to seeing how Pepsi and Cherry take to the "5th". They haven't been out camping with us yet and we're wonder what they will make of it. Hope they enjoy it as much as Tilly used to.

For those who like summer camping in Texas and every one else, I wish nothing but,

Happy Camping!

Re: My hat is off to campers

We went camping at Double Lakes the weekend before last, which is close to Lake Livingston. It was definitely hot, but we made sure to get a shady campsite. There's also swimming there so you can cool off, which made the trip. If it wasn't for the shade and swimming, we would've been miserable.
