Re: Moving to Gulf Coast, HELP PLEASE!

I know this post is a bit dated, but in case anyone new makes the move I didn't see this information above.

The dividing line of "clean/dirty" water on the US Gulf Coast is the Mississippi River. I come from the Louisiana Coast and have lived in New Orleans, among other places. I am not from N.O., I lived there 5 years for work.

Anyhow, we'd visit Alabama and Florida every year because they are close and are East of the Mississippi. The muddy waters of the Mississippi flow West and therefore the coasts of Louisiana and West Texas see this color water in the Gulf. As you go East into Mississippi, you see some of this "dirty" water, but as you reach Mobile, Alabama and West, the water becomes increasingly Carribean green until you get around Ft. Walton and Destin, Fl where it goes deep blue.

I have never visited Padre Island, so I am curious to see how it is. One thing to mention, that Mississippi river water sure makes for great fishing and seafood.

.02 cents.
