Post Last Week It Was Still Summer (Almost)!

If you haven't been watching, weather in North Central Texas is not at all nice today! Grass is already slick with ice and more is coming down. They say it's going to be pretty nasty by the middle of the afternoon. And to think that I had the AC on last week!!! Only in Texas !

DD drives a school bus and was supposed to take GD and her class on a field trip this afternoon. It got cancelled and I'm happy about that but DD still has to drive her route again today. DS works in the Mid-Cities and will have to drive home to north Johnson county this afternoon. Hope he leaves work early.

DW and I are lucky as Wednesday and Thursday are our "weekend". Got off work this morning at 7 and got everything done by 10. Intend to spend tonight watching wood burn in the fireplace and watch Christmas movies (Lampone's "Christmas Vacation" is top of the hit parade !).

Hope every one stays safe and warm over the next few days. Stay out of the cold. It's not worth it!

Happy Camping & Merry Christmas!

Sorry to hear it's so trecherous up there. It's bone-chilling (for San Antonio) cold here but dry, although someone did mention the "sleet" and "ice" words to me (and it wasn't my mother! )

PS: We had our windows open *yesterday* during the day!

Re: Last Week It Was Still Summer (Almost)!

Well, it wasn't too bad, at least not for us. There was ice all over the place through the night and it got DANG COLD. Burned a lot of wood in the fire place, enjoyed a few movies and just snoozed in front of the fire through the night. Sun's out and the streets are wet but no more ice. Still cold (23 now with expected high of 29). DD had no big problems driving her route but did say that even by 9 AM, the roads were not nice to be on. Since I haven't heard otherwise, I assume DS got to work OK. He said last night that he intended to go in late. He's fortunate that his job (chemist) allows him to work independently.

Hope all made it through the night sans freezing. Will look in again tonight.

Merry Christmas and Happy Camping!

Re: Last Week It Was Still Summer (Almost)!

We got moisture (rain, which froze on the ground, and some sleet) yesterday afternoon, beginning in earnest after 4 PM as the temperature dropped 7+ degrees in an hour or so. My windshield iced up just as I pulled into my neighborhood and our porch and deck were trecherous with ice!

When I left my house today our icicles on the eaves were melting, but heading into NW San Antonio I hit freezing temperatures again. It's 30 or so right now, breezy and dry... for now.

We have family in DFW and it sounds awful up there... good time to curl up with family in front of a fire. It's as close as we get down here in San Antonio to a "white Christmas", anyway!

The bad weather doesn't last long around here. I'm going backpacking tomorrow.

Enjoy the backpacking! I'm jealous! We'll be in Fredericksburg for several days, and hopefully get some hiking in at Enchanted Rock SNA, to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary (Dec. 12, 1998).

Congratulations and best wishes on the anniversary. Hope you have the chance to swing by the Fredericksburg Brewery and lift one for me. Have a great trip and I wish you both 7 more years of happiness.

Happy Camping!
