Gotta brag a little bit for my own personal motivation, and in case anyone wonders how long it takes to get to steeper, rockier hiking after ACL reconstruction and meniscus (cartilage) repair/removal:
I joined Justin and his friends from work on a morning hike up the Summit Trail at Enchanted Rock (E-Rock) State Natural Area today. My first REAL hike since my knee surgery. I'd knocked my knee pretty hard last week, and only this past week officially crossed the "16 week barrier" my surgeon had tried to enforce before I returned to hiking. Yes, I cheated and did hike once at 10 weeks post-op, but I decided I didn't like to gamble with another surgery and doubling my rehab time if I did something foolish. So today was my first real hike since my surgery 17 weeks and 1 day ago, and really longer than that since my knee injury stopped my hiking back in November 2004.

(I didn't actually hike with a camera bag and TWO hiking poles. I'm holding Justin's hiking pole and camera bag in the photo...

PS: The hinged brace is standard equipment for my hiking and any sport activities for 1 year post-op. Not all surgeons prescribe a brace, but mine does.)
