Ivan headed for Texas?

Probabily that center if IVAN will pass within 75 miles in the next 72 hours

Texans & Louisianans, brace for impact!
More data here... {{ fixed the link; sorry about that }}

The good news is IVAN's been "reborn" as a Tropical Storm, so it isn't at anything approaching the strength and potential destructive power as it was when it hammered Florida a couple weeks ago.

As we all know, Floridians are still trying to get electricity, fresh water and other basic necessities of life restored after getting hit by three hurricanes this hurricane season.

Re: Ivan headed for Texas?

And now Florida is facing a huge probablility that Jeanne is going to strike as well...

Plus the development of more to come is still possible too. As for Ivan, what a surviver!! He just refuses to give up, it's amazing to me. I am totally fascinated by Hurricanes. Watching Jeanne is just scary, it would almost seem like they have intelligence. The way she started heading out towards cold water, and is now turning around and heading back towards warmer waters.

I like to surf, so I welcome some turbulance in the waters of the Gulf. But I can't say that I embrace the destruction that comes along with it. But if you move to the Gulf States and Southeastern States, you are taunting Mother Nature and her power. It's a way of life here. Just like living at the foot of an active volcano.

Looks like we'll at least get some rain here, probably flooding rains if it stalls over us like Allison did in 2001. According to NOAA's forecasted track, the hill country will receive some rain also. Prepare for power outage.

San Antonio's pretty far inland, but we've had plenty of rain the past couple days as Ivan moved into the Gulf. Any more rain, and we'll see flooding though not like the coastal cities of Texas and Louisiana.

On a related note, here are aerial "before" Ivan and "after" Ivan photos of Florida's coastal areas from NOAA.

General Weather Links

... No way am I ever living in Florida, or coastal Louisiana, etc. San Antonio's close enough for me. I spent my early childhood near the San Andreas Fault (Orange County, CA). Never experienced an earthquake while I was there. Not sure earthquakes are any "better" -- yet, with no warning, it's probably less stressful to live there over the long term. Same for volcanoes -- even ones that spit steam all the time don't roar to life once a year like hurricane season rather predicably produces a Florida or East Coast-landfalling storm.

Re: Ivan headed for Texas?

So, how did you folks on the Texas coast and East Texas fare? It's been downright beautiful here in San Antonio the past 36 hours -- blue skies and the clouds are only now forming at all (right now, they're "fair weather cumulus" but we may get a little rain this weekend).

Hope all's well.

Re: Ivan headed for Texas?

Shannon,
So far it's been dry as a bone here SE of Houston. I was hoping to get at least a couple of inches of rain from the system......so dry here now. It looks like it's taking a Piney Woods path through east Tx toward Texarkana. Oh, well Just shows you how unpredictable these storms are.
