Here are photos of what the hurricane did to aircraft at an airport where the storm made landfall. Take note of the aircraft that were
tied down and what happened to them -- incredible wind speeds and wind shear, plus storm surge. Devastating... I share this in part because as Texans, many of us are at least potentially at risk whenever a major hurricane comes into the Gulf of Mexico and threatens the Texas Gulf Coast.
Hurricane Charley took over a dozen lives, maybe more, and destroyed many homes and businesses. The aircraft and general aviation losses are comparatively minor to losing one's life or home, but still sad to see. I'm sure many boats share the same fate as these aircraft... people just don't have time to take themselves and their families out of danger AND transport their expensive leisure or business craft (airplanes, boats, RVs, etc.) out of harm's way as well.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are literally picking up the pieces of their lives right now in Florida.
