Here there be weezles - help me name them!

Heya Folks,

I just had to pass along some news.

As you can see by my icon, I'm a ferret nut. Unfortunately, my "old man" Floyd passed away last Saturday 10/2 of a pulmonary emboli (threw a clot into his lungs) which was a complication of cardiomyopathy. Sadly, I didn't even realize he had cardiomyopathy as it is a very insidious disease.

On Aug 16th my bearded dragon passed away and back in January my youngest ferret, Jake, ran away. This has NOT been a good year for me and pets. I was down to me, my 7-year old ferret Gwen and half a dozen Rummy-Nosed Tetras in a 30g tank.

After a week of both Gwen and I moping around the apartment, I solved that little problem with two new additions to my family (er, zoo). Follow the link and look in "My Critters" for pics of the two new kiddos.

My photo site

Both ferrets are 8 weeks old. The darker one is a female. She's feisty & won't sit still for a moment. The lighter one is her brother. He's calmer than her and more independent. However, at least on the surface, he seems less intelligent. I'm not saying he's dumb, its just possible the young lady is extraordinarily bright.

I've tentatively named the female "Fidget" but have no name for the male as of yet. I'm open to suggestions for either one.

Sorry for the loss of some of your critters over the past 9 months or so. It's tough losing them, no matter what the cause, and I'm glad you have two new babies to look after. Gwen will probably appreciate having same species companionship again, too!

I like "Fidget" for the female. I'll gladly donate the name "Bert" that our oldest cat was adopted out to us with from the shelter. He wasn't a "Bert", however, so we quickly renamed him to "Norton" after bringing him home. (He's "Norton" after Norton Anti-Virus... I figure if we got another male cat, he'd be "McAffee", but we're at 3 cats and that's our limit.)

Pet names brainstorming, based on pets from my life:
CATS:
** Snoopy (M), Chaos (M), Bedlam (F) & Uproar (F) -- four cats that I grew up with, in order of age. All passed away before I graduated from high school, but we had each for over 10 years and Bedlam and Uproar for seemingly forever (so long we lost count and the count sounded too old whenever we tried to figure it out!) Chaos ran away one year.

** Cassidy (M) & Sundance (F) -- my parents two present cats

** Norton (M), Blanco (M) & Amiga (F) -- the three cats I somehow convinced Justin he had to adopt and allow to cohabitate with us after we got married! They're our furballs, and they leave reminders that they are often.

DOGS:
** Waffle (M, Shetland Sheepdog), John Quincy Adams (M, Old English Sheepdog), Gizmo (F, Lahasa Apso) -- dogs I grew up with. All are in doggy heaven now.

RABBITS:
** Blackie (M, dwarf rabbit -- black), Misty (F, dwarf rabbity -- grey)

Well. Just gonna throw this out there. In college, I had a ferret. His name was Pilgrim and everybody thought the name was a hoot. Dang critter was mean though.. had to go live with a nice ferret lady like yourself.

Take care and good luck with the beasts..

No ferrets for me. They look a little too high strung for me. Cats are more mellow, most of the time.

The way I describe them to people is like this - imagine having a kitten that will never grow up... both the good AND the bad that comes with the idea.

Vettech, Actually DUDE would be a good name for your weasel. There was a guy I used to work with and he was very high strung, fidgety, paranoid and he couldn't sit still. He would make coffee nervous. Anyway, he loved to surf and talk about surfing. We called him Surf Weasel. Picture a guy walking rapidly down the hallway, muttering to himself and carrying a surf magazine....that would be Surf Weasel. I had to chuckle when I saw your post because I thought of him, the one with all the mannerisms of a weasel.

Dweezil for the little boy ("Flea" came a close second)

Sadly, Gwen passed away this evening of a liver tumor that bled out.
