Hello from Austin looking for beach that allows...

Hi, my first post here. I'm 30 and never been on a vacation, ever. I am finally getting a chance to plan a week long vacation and am looking for a beach or near beach area that allows for several things:
1) Camping with vehicle and can make campfire
2) Allows dogs
3) Allows a metal detector

I just recently became aware that you cannot bring a metal detector on any texas state park, so now I am kind of at a loss as to where to camp.
There has got to be some cool places somewhere along the Texas gulf coast!

I do not know areas for camping at all, this is all kind of new to me

Would appreciate any help I can get =) Thanks in advance!

You may want to use the search function on USAer blog to find more information on "beach."

Welcome to Texas!

Typing the word "beach" into the search function box will reveal many topics identifying specific beach camping destinations.

Most all will allow 1) and 2), but you might get an argument on 3). Would be best to call them directly and ask.

Yeah, I'm curious, too. I was at Galveston Island SP in May and there was a guy combing the beach with a metal detector. Nobody seemed to mind and I didn't think twice about it.

It's just another one of them - thou shalt not . Go figure on why they made it a written rule. But, it's there.

Because many places won't want you excavating to reveal your find.

... the current regulation is a valid exercise of the department’s legal authority, and is necessary to execute the department’s statutory obligation to protect and conserve the cultural, historic, geologic, and natural resources on department properties. In addition, unless specifically permitted by the Texas Historical Commission, metal detecting activities risk being in violation of the Antiquities Code of Texas.

hello from surfside. we have the accomodation of all three, and you can either get a one time charge sticker 8 dollars for all year or the free beach is a little further down bluewater hwy.both allow licensed motor vehicles, pets and as for the metal detectors therers an old couple down here that pretty much make a living using theirs on our beach.

Re: Hello from Austin looking for beach that allows...

Hello, I just wanted to say thanks for the replies.
I was able to get a few leads this past week that I wanted to share.
A hotel manager from Port Aransas emailed me saying "I am not aware of any rules against using metal detectors on the beach. I see people using them all the time."
Also a lady from the sopadre.com website told me that dogs and metal detectors are allowed at Isla Blanca Park located on the right side of south padre island as you enter.
And I found this website http://www.lonestartreasure.com/ that could be helpful to any beginner metal detector users like myself.
