Yeah... things haven't been running too smoothly on the server side of things for the past 2-3 days. Our hosting company is working like demons to get everything back on track, but things are going to be erratic for the a little while.
We sincerely apologize for the issues, and will post an update when things have stabilized.
For the non-geeks out there, sometimes our database server goes down which in effect breaks large portions of WildTexas.com, since we incorporate a lot of database functionality -- the discussion forums, the photo gallery, the web guide, etc. When the database server goes offline, or even when it just gets bogged down, things here on the site can start looking and behaving pretty oddly.
Other times, the entire web server dies -- taking with it all of the website, as well as temporarily turning off our (my) email capability. When that happens, your web browser will act as thought WildTexas.com doesn't exist...
Neither of these scenarios is pleasant for our members and guests, nor does it do any favors for my blood pressure and patience.
At no time, however, is the website compromised in terms of security, nor is it ever at risk of not coming back online. We back up the entire website, including all the databases, every single day and so does our web host.
I can only tell you we have worked with many web hosting companies over the years, and the one we've been with since 1998-9 is one of the best, if not the best. Even they have issues sometimes... just like the Target store I tried to shop in awhile back that had lost all power except for minimal backup lights. No registers, no nothing. Stuff happens, sometimes. At least it's not a hurricane
